Some of You Criticized Me for Associating With an ‘Unbeliever’ – Ebuka Songs Reflects on Worship Moment With Late Alex Ekubo

  • Ebuka Songs has reflected on his past worship session with late actor Alex Ekubo, revealing he was criticized for associating with him.
  • According to the singer, he ignored the criticism because he believed his duty as a Christian was to show love and draw people closer to God rather than condemn them.
  • The gospel singer urged Christians to stop condemning people and instead lead them to Christ through love and evangelism.

Popular gospel singer Ebuka Songs has reacted emotionally following the reported passing of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, as he reflected on a past worship session they shared alongside actor IK Ogbonna.

In a lengthy post shared online, Ebuka Songs revealed that he was previously criticized by some people for associating with Alex Ekubo, whom they allegedly described as an “unbeliever.”

According to the singer, he ignored the criticism because he believed his duty as a Christian was to show love and draw people closer to God rather than condemn them.

Some of you criticized me then. ‘Why are you worshipping with someone like that?’ ‘Why associate with an unbeliever?’ But today, I am grateful I ignored the noise,” he wrote.

Ebuka said he had the privilege of witnessing what he described as “a soul encounter the presence of God,” adding that many people are too quick to judge others without knowing what God may be doing in their lives privately.

“The same people you write off may be one encounter away from surrender. The same people you criticize may be deeply hungry for God.

“Jesus did not come for the already ‘perfect.’ He came for the lost.”

The gospel singer further urged Christians to focus more on love and evangelism rather than condemnation.

“So before you drag people, ask yourself: are you drawing them closer to Christ, or pushing them further away?

“If you think Eternity is already sure for you, then don’t deprive another man an opportunity to meet the Jesus that changed your Life.”

Ebuka Songs also paid tribute to the late actor, writing:

“Uncle Alex help me tell Jesus I love till we meet again.”

In another message, he stressed that many entertainers genuinely love God despite public assumptions about their lifestyle or profession.

“The message passed is very clear… Uncle Alex was a believer and lover of God, same as many of our celebrated arts, but people are quick to condemn you once your field has nothing to do with carrying microphones,” he added.

The emotional post stirred reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the singer’s comments and the tendency to judge public figures harshly.

Reacting to the post, one X user, @only1validd, wrote, “Who made Alex an unbeliever? Who told the singer he is a believer because he’s singing JESUS?”

Another user, @REAL_BIG_STEF, commented, “And what make you think you yourself you are a believer? Because you sing gospel songs?”

@Virginia193144 defended the singer, writing, “Me I must not listen to others opinions once I’m convinced about it.”

A user identified as @King_Carl01, however, stated, “Don’t make it about you sir.”

Another commenter, @islandredeemer, added, “They had a very strong valid prayer point during this period, they were pouring out their hearts to God to see them through. LIFE!!!!!!”
