Fresh details have emerged surrounding the reported passing of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, as popular blogger Cutie_Juls alleged that the actor had been secretly battling kidney cancer for over a year.
According to a post shared by the blogger, only Alex’s mother and wife were allegedly aware of his diagnosis, while even his closest friends reportedly remained in the dark until shortly before his passing.
The blog claimed that the actor had been hospitalized since April and had switched off his phone during that period.
“No one except Alex’s mom and his wife knew about his cancer diagnosis,” the post read.
“Alex has been in hospital since April. Any friend or foe that says they’ve been speaking to Alex from 2nd week of April till he passed yesterday is just lying.”
Cutie_Juls further alleged that the actor had kidney cancer and not liver cancer as earlier speculated online.
“His illness was Cancer of the Kidney and not liver cancer,” the blogger stated.
The blog also claimed that Alex instructed those around him to tell people he wanted to stay off phone calls for two months, while maintaining strict privacy regarding his health condition.
According to the post, even his spiritual leader allegedly had no idea about the illness.
“Even his pastor, Pastor Jerry didn’t know. Even hospital staff aside his medical team, didn’t know his diagnosis.”
The blogger added that Alex’s close friends, including actor IK Ogbonna and Vintage, reportedly only found out about the illness on Monday after he slipped into a coma.
“His closest circle, IK and Vintage only found out on Monday that Alex has been battling cancer quietly for over a year.”
The revelations have stirred emotional reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing shock and sadness over the actor’s alleged private struggle.
Reacting, @Ekenewhite wrote, “We have lost millions to that illness. My father suffered it too before he passed.”
Another user, @Glowriified, commented, “He kept it from everyone 🥺.”
@Rita_mila3040 wrote, “He should have said something to his close friends, it’s not fair that he battled all of this alone with no one by his side.”
Questioning the reports, @SammySteve_ stated, “Na who we go believe nau: This blogger or Alex Ekubo’s family?”
