Nigerian International Writer, Chimamanda Adichie Loses Father

 Renowned author, Chimamanda Adichie, has just lost her father, Prof. James Nwoye Adichie.

Adichie passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday night at Chira Memorial Hospital, Awkuzu, Anambra state. He was 88.

Speaking on his demise, his son Okey Adichie said;

“Our father, Professor J. N. Adichie, Odelora Abba, died late yesterday night, June 10, 2020, at Chira Memorial Hospital, Awkuzu.”

He was an Emeritus Professor of Statistics and Mathematics at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).

The late Adichie is the first Nigerian professor of Statistics and was a member of International Statistical Institute since 1978 and member, Governing Council of ISI 1985-1987.

Prof James Adichie was born in 1932 and went to Nimo Primary School and later moved to Akwuzu Primary School where he finished standard six. After primary education, he attended Our Lady’s High School, Onitsha, 1947-48, and Yaba Technical Institute (now College of Technology) Lagos, 1948-50.

He also attended University College, Ibadan, 1957-60, University of California, Berkeley, USA, 1963-66
