Governor Alia Orders Arrests Over K!lling of Kano Indigenes in Benue

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has strongly denounced the killing of two Kano State indigenes in Makurdi, labeling the act as “barbaric, senseless, and completely against the values of Benue people.”

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor confirmed that five suspects have been arrested by the Benue State Police Command. This follows Alia’s immediate directive to security agencies to ensure that those behind the gruesome crime are apprehended and prosecuted.

“Benue people are known for their hospitality and peaceful disposition,” Alia said. “We will not allow criminal elements to destroy our reputation or disrupt the peace we have worked so hard to maintain. The perpetrators of this heinous crime must be brought to justices wiftly and decisively.”

Reports indicate that the victims, both from Kano, were traveling through Agan, a community in Makurdi, when they were attacked and killed by unidentified assailants.

Governor Alia extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, assuring them that justice will prevail. He urged residents of the state to remain calm and avoid retaliation or inflammatory actions.

Governor Yusuf also reacted to the incident, calling it “a tragic blow to national unity” and emphasized the need for stronger protections for Nigerians in every part of the country.

“It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow that we mourn the loss of two promising young men—peace-loving citizens whose only ‘crime’ was exercising their constitutional right to travel and live freely within their country,” Yusuf stated.

He reaffirmed his commitment to working with security agencies and the Benue State Government to ensure the killers are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Both leaders vowed to collaborate closely to ensure peace, justice, and national unity are preserved.
