Catholic Priest, Fr. Hyacinth Alia wins Benue governorship election

  • Fr. Alia polled 473,933 votes to defeat his closest rival and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Titus Uba, who scored 223,913 votes.

Candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has been declared as the winner of the March 18 governorship election in Benue state, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Fr. Alia polled 473,933 votes to defeat his closest rival and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Titus Uba, who scored 223,913 votes.

The Returning Officer, Prof Faruq Kuta and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna declared Alia as winner of the election.

The Catholic Priest will now be taking over from Governor Samuel Ortom of the PDP who lost in a senatorial election he contested in. Ortom is a two-term Governor.
