Speaking to reporters in his office, Abubakar said that of the victims, six students had been saved and nine had managed to escape from the bandits’ custody. He added that the remaining victims were still in the bandits’ possession.

While efforts were being made by the security agents to rescue the remaining students, he claimed that the university administration was in contact with the parents of the victims.

He urged parents to exercise more patience as security personnel work hard to free the victims.

Governor Dauda Lawal visited the university in the interim and spoke with the administration there about the unfortunate incident.

Lawal remained adamant about not negotiating with the thieves.

He claims that his administration is developing the necessary security measures to put an end to state-wide banditry.

In order to accomplish the desired result, the governor also asked for increased security agent cooperation.
