The Nigeria Broadcasting Commission has shut the Ekiti State Broadcasting Corporation after Governor Ayodele Fayose went on air to announce the PDP candidate as the winner of the governorship election that was held in the state on Saturday.

The INEC was still collating results of the election, awaiting electronic computation from the 16 council areas in the state to the INEC headquarters when the NBC ordered the closure.

The INEC headquarters was condoned off as results were being awaited.

However, no winner had emerged as of the time the governor reportedly made the announcement, and the broadcasting regulatory agency gave the order.

The APC candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi later recorded the highest votes at the election.

Recollect that the NBC had earlier slammed a N500,000 fine on the Ekiti State Broadcasting Corporation for violation of the ethical standards of broadcasting in the country.

The Director-General of NBC, Malam Ishaq Modibbo Kawu has said that the appointment of the Acting Director-General of Ekiti Broadcasting Service, Lere Olayinka, as the Spokesperson of Kolapo Olusola Campaign Organisation (KOCO), was not in conformity with the ethical standard of broadcasting.

Kawu said that NBC had written to the station and drawn its attention to the violation of the code, but that words of caution were ignored.

Governor Ayodele Fayose had earlier called out the All Progressive Congress, APC over alleged malpractice during the election.
