  • Nweke is currently fighting colon cancer, a battle he started in 2025.
  • Etiko shared a heartfelt video of Nweke receiving treatment from his hospital bed.

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Destiny Etiko has appealed to Nigerians and well-meaning individuals to support actor and director Ikechukwu Nweke, who is currently battling colon cancer.

On Friday, July 10, 2026, Etiko shared an emotional video of the actor receiving treatment from his hospital bed, where he opened up about his health struggles and his fight against the disease, which began in 2025.

According to Ikechukwu, he had initially chosen to keep his condition private while trying to handle the situation with the help of his family and colleagues in the entertainment industry. However, the rising cost of treatment has left him in need of urgent financial assistance.

The actor revealed that he has already undergone surgery and is currently receiving chemotherapy as part of his treatment process.

“I have been trying to manage it privately. I have spent a whole lot of money; my family members have contributed a lot. People in the industry have contributed,” he said.

Ikechukwu explained that his personal savings have been exhausted due to medical expenses, adding that he has had to sell some of his belongings to continue funding his treatment.

“The doctor said the treatment will cost me a lot; I can no longer be able to afford it with my life savings. Everything has gone down. I have sold some of my things just so I can be able to afford this treatment,” he said.

He further appealed for support, noting that any form of financial assistance could make a significant difference in his recovery journey.

“I have done surgery and I am undergoing chemotherapy at the same time. Please, any amount can help save my life and help me recover,” he added.

Sharing the video on her Instagram page, Destiny Etiko described the situation as heartbreaking, stating that she and others had initially tried to handle the situation privately because of their relationship with the actor.

She wrote that cancer is a battle that cannot be managed by one person alone and called on the public to support Ikechukwu during this difficult period.

Etiko also disclosed that more than N15 million has already been spent on his treatment, but additional funds are still urgently needed to continue his care.

According to the actress, Ikechukwu has been responding to treatment, but another N17 million is required to help save his life.

She urged Nigerians to contribute whatever they can, stressing that every form of support matters in helping the actor overcome the illness.
