On Monday, a fuel tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also referred to as gasoline, collapsed near Ilesa Motor Park in Ile-Ife on Fajuyi Road.

The gasoline tanker, purportedly owned by BOVAS filling station, unexpectedly overturned when it was traveling to Moore Area to discharge its contents.

The motorist was found to be uninjured when a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reporter went to the scene of the accident. But the downed tanker had spilled petrol everywhere, so security personnel had to block off the area.

Ibrahim Salam, an eyewitness, reported that the tanker unexpectedly collapsed as it tried to cross a road that led to Moore Area, the location of the filling station.

He stated, “We thank God that no lives or properties were lost.”

According to Mr. Adeyinmi Adeleye, Principal Fire Superintendent 2 and Ife Zonal Fire Station’s zonal commander, they were stationed to stop anyone from taking gasoline out of the tanker in order to prevent a possible fire situation. Adeleye stated that evaluating the issue was their main priority at the moment.

He speculated that because of the hazardous curves and poor condition of the road, the tanker driver might have oversped in that vicinity. Adeleye cautioned large truck and tanker drivers to use extreme caution when traveling through that region.

Additionally, the Principal Fire Superintendent asked the nearby neighbors to exercise caution and leave the area right once because there could be a serious risk from the spilled fuel.
