The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was recently abandoned by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and they have now ruled out joining the PDP again.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike’s supporters, led by the Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule-led MPs, dropped the notice of impeachment against Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Wednesday.

Part of the agreement made at a peace conference called by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to end the standoff between Wike and Fubara included the removal of the impeachment notice.

The House of Assembly member for Asari-Toru Constituency 2 in Port Harcourt, Hon. Enemi Alabo George, stated to reporters that the lawmakers who supported Wike had crossed a threshold and would not return to the PDP.

According to George, they joined President Tinubu in the APC in order to work together to ensure that Nigerians’ expectations were met.

He said: “We have crossed that rubicon. We moved to the APC. I told you the other day that we cannot continue because of the division in our party.

“We voted for the President and if the President is worthy of our votes, then, he should be worthy of our support. We have moved over to support the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’.

“We will work hand in gloves with him to make sure that the expectation of Nigerians are fulfilled.

“So, we moved to the APC and we are working with the President. We have crossed the rubicon and there is no going back for us.”
