The longest-running African song to top the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart was held by Wizkid until high-flying Nigerian artist Divine Ikubor, alias Rema, shattered that record.

This week, Rema and Selena Gomez’s popular single, “Calm Down,” broke the previous record set by Wizkid and Tems’ 2020 single, “Essence,” which stayed at No. 1 for 17 weeks.

But this week, ‘Calm Down’ fell one spot to No. 5 on the main Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Recall that the song was the highest charting and longest-running Nigerian song in the chart’s history when it peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart last week.

‘Calm Down’ also debuted at No. 5 on the official Billboard Song of the Summer chart, making it the first African song to appear on the chart.
