Between January and November 2023, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) received 752 complaints alleging violations of human rights in Plateau State.

In Jos, the state capital, Veronica Abe, the coordinator of the commission, revealed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.

The instances, according to Abe, included a wide range of topics, including forced marriage, rape, child abuse, desertion, and domestic violence in addition to extrajudicial killings, inhumane treatment, and arbitrary detention.

“A total of 752 cases of human rights abuse were reported in Plateau between January and November 2023. Most of these cases have been treated and concluded, while some are still ongoing. A total of 1,053 persons were affected, including 166 women and 463 children,” she added.

The coordinator urged Plateau locals to submit abuse instances to the proper authorities so that swift action may be taken, and gave assurances that the outstanding cases would be resolved shortly. [NAN]
