Oyo Police Kill 3 Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Abducted Victim In Oke-Ogu

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three suspected kidnappers during a joint security operation carried out in Otu, a community in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the operation involved police officers, local hunters, and other security agencies following a distress call from hunters who reportedly came under attack while on a hunting expedition on May 25, 2026.

The police disclosed that the local hunters alerted authorities after suspected kidnappers opened fire on them in the forest area around Otu.

“Acting swiftly on the intelligence received, a response team comprising police operatives, local hunters, and other security agencies was immediately mobilised to the scene at Otu,” the statement read.

The command stated that the suspected kidnappers engaged security operatives in a gun duel upon arrival at the scene.

“Through superior tactical response and coordinated effort, the criminals were successfully overpowered, leading to the neutralisation of three suspected kidnappers,” the police added.

During the operation, security operatives rescued a kidnapped victim identified as Mosudi Gbolagade, said to be about 50 years old. He was reportedly abducted in Okaka before being held captive in the Otu area.

The victim reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the rescue operation and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Police also recovered one AK-47 rifle without ammunition, one single-barrel gun, and a machete from the scene.

One of the local hunters who participated in the operation was also injured during the exchange of gunfire and is currently receiving medical attention.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State commended the bravery of the local hunters and security personnel involved in the mission, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state.

“The Command therefore reiterates its unwavering commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements across the state and urges residents to remain vigilant by providing credible and timely information to security agencies,” the statement added.
