LP Factional Dispute Intensifies as Abure Refuses Court of Appeal Ruling

In an attempt to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress in the general elections of 2027, the Labour Party declared on Thursday that it had no intention of merging with the Peoples Democratic Party.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the PDP, stated on Tuesday that in order to beat the ruling APC in the upcoming election, opposition parties should unite.

In a statement released on Thursday in response to Atiku’s proposal, LP spokesman Obiora Ifoh stated that the party has not contemplated a merger.

Ifoh said Atiku’s call “was only a proposal and every Nigerian should be interested in making democracy work in Nigeria and that what we have presently is an autocracy”.

“There was nowhere in the response that the purported merger between LP and PDP was mentioned,” Ifoh emphasised.

Atiku’s merger idea was criticized by the APC, which said that he was still having difficulty accepting reality following his loss in the presidential election.

Felix Morka, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, stated in a statement that the PDP ought to concentrate on resolving its internal party crisis.
