- Isaac Fayose has criticized his brother, Ayo Fayose, over comments suggesting governors should be blamed for insecurity in their states.
- The exchange has reignited debate over whether governors or the Federal Government should bear greater responsibility for Nigeria’s security challenges.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has come under criticism from his younger brother, Isaac Fayose, over comments he made about insecurity and the role of governors in tackling it.
The disagreement started after Ayo Fayose said governors should not be excused when insecurity worsens in their states. According to him, governors receive security votes and have structures in place that should help maintain law and order.
He also argued that governors are important figures in the security system of their states and should take responsibility for security challenges. Drawing from his time in office, he suggested that some security incidents could be politically motivated and used to paint the Federal Government in a bad light.
Reacting to the comments, Isaac Fayose disagreed with his brother and questioned why some governors are blamed for insecurity while others are defended.
“Four weeks ago, five weeks ago, they kidnapped people in my own state, Ekiti State, and you are supporting the governor there. Why didn’t you tell the governor of Ekiti that you are collecting security votes? Why can’t you protect the Ekiti people?” he said.
Isaac argued that insecurity is a national problem affecting many states across the country. He pointed to incidents in Borno State, Katsina State, Zamfara State, Niger State and Kwara State, asking whether governors in those states should also be held fully responsible for criminal activities.
The exchange has sparked fresh debate among Nigerians about who should be held accountable for insecurity. While governors receive security votes and head security meetings in their states, many have argued that they do not have direct control over security agencies because those agencies are under the Federal Government.
Ayo Fayose believes governors should take more responsibility for security in their states, while Isaac Fayose argues that blaming governors alone ignores the wider national nature of the problem. Their disagreement has continued to generate reactions online.
