The founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has addressed concerns from Nigerians who believe religious leaders have not done enough to speak against the country’s growing security challenges.
While speaking to members of his congregation during a church service, the cleric maintained that the criticism is unfair, noting that several pastors have consistently voiced their opinions on national matters over the years.
Ibiyeomie recalled that during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, some church leaders openly criticized government policies and national issues. He questioned why many of the people now demanding stronger reactions from pastors remained silent during that period.
According to him, religious leaders have not ignored issues affecting the nation, including insecurity and governance. He argued that their contributions and public statements on such matters are often overlooked by critics who accuse them of keeping quiet.
The pastor’s remarks come at a time when public frustration over insecurity, kidnapping, and other governance-related concerns continues to grow, sparking conversations about the responsibility of faith leaders in national discourse.
He said …
“Now nobody is talking again, all those people that use to r!ot during are not r!oting again, Nigeria is a funny country. They talked during Jonathan, why they no talk again. They say men of God are not talking about the country’s insecurity, the ones that talked during Jonathan’s term, why’re they not talking now? The time we talked, una talk ? We’ve been shouting since”
