Six individuals, including a 29-year-old Nigerien suspected of involvement in the distribution of firearms, vandalism, and motorcycle theft, have been detained by Jigawa State police.

The arrest of the suspects was confirmed in a statement made available to The Punch on Wednesday by ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the Command’s assistant public relations officer.

The 29-year-old Bilal Faraji citizen of the Niger Republic and 28-year-old Yusuf A Yusuf from Jigawa State’s Kazaure LGA were reportedly detained in connection with the supply of firearms.

According to Sadiq, both suspects have been identified as suppliers of firearms and ammunition to criminal elements operating in the Ringim area and its surroundings.

He stated that the suspects confessed to taking part in the sale and distribution of firearms in both Kano and Jigawa States during questioning, implicating themselves in criminal activity.

Sadiq pointed out that a number of criminal activities, including a break-in on September 28, 2023, were followed by the arrest.

Sagiru Musa, a resident of Kakikankare village in the Ringim LGA, reported that four armed men forced their way into his home and stole his green Golf 3 wagon with the registration number RNG 691 AA Jigawa State.

He claimed that in addition to the car, they also stole two Tecno phone keypads.

“The stolen vehicle contained a variety of personal papers and valuables, including an ATM card, a voter card, a national ID card, a custom duty card, a vigilante ID card, and information about the vehicle.

The Chief Security Officer at Dutse International Airport, Alhaji Ibrahim Jeke, reported the theft of an air conditioner and the vandalism of cable wires used for the glide slope and VOR systems at the airport on September 9, 2023, he continued.

“In response to the report, a team was assembled by a Divisional Police officer to look into the crime scene and identify the perpetrators.

“Thankfully, three suspects were caught in connection with the airport burglary on September 29, 2023.

Mutari Idris, Adamu Idris, and Yasir Iliyasu, residents of Bakin Ruwa village in Dutse LGA, Jigawa State, and Kara Makama village in Ajingi LGA, Kano State, were identified by Sadiq as the suspects.

He claimed that during a search of their homes, police found an axe, four pump-action gun cartridges, earth cables, condoms made of connection wire, armored cables, and air conditioning fan blades.

He continued, “During questioning, the suspects admitted to trespassing on the airport grounds and engaging in the vandalism of valuables.
