Early on Thursday, Ibadan, Oyo State recorded its first rains in 2024

The Nigerian News Agency reported that the intense downpour, which began at 4:20 a.m., continued for around 40 minutes.

In Omi-Adio, Ido Local Government, Ibadan South West Local Government, and other areas of the city, there was an unanticipated rainstorm that was free of thunderstorms, lightning, or strong winds.

The city’s residents were overjoyed by the rain, calling it “showers of blessing in the new year.”

Mr. Paul Ademola, a resident of Omi Adio, remarked that the rain provided a welcome break from the heat that pervaded the evening and early morning hours.

“It is also a relief from the harmattan haze made worse by untarred roads, causing illnesses among residents of Omi–Adio.

“I think it is important for the local government authority to pay urgent attention to constructing the roads,” he said

Mr. Nicholas Olabanji, a farmer and another resident, claimed that the rain was not only a blessing but also a sign of early rains this year.

Mrs. Romoke Alao, a roadside vendor, claimed that the rain was a sign that everyone would have a happy new year.

According to NAN, there was no rain in several areas of the Ibadan city, including Oke-Itunu and Mokola in Ibadan South West.
