Nigerian music executive and Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy, has spoken out against the growing trend of upcoming artistes keeping only a few posts on their Instagram pages in the name of maintaining an “aesthetic” image.
Sharing his opinion during a candid conversation, the renowned producer stressed that strong social media presence remains important for artistes hoping to attract attention and opportunities in the entertainment industry.
According to Don Jazzy, he is unlikely to work with or sign artistes who are inactive online and rarely engage their audience through content.
“I will never sign you if you don’t like to post,” he stated.
He further expressed frustration over seeing young artistes maintain pages with just a handful of posts while expecting to break into the music scene successfully.
“I’m tired of seeing artistes with just three posts on Instagram calling it aesthetic,” he said.
Don Jazzy also drew comparisons between international celebrities and some African stars many upcoming artistes try to emulate. Using popular figures like Kim Kardashian and Travis Scott as examples, he pointed out that consistency and visibility online still matter regardless of fame.
He advised rising artistes to stop copying the social media habits of top Nigerian stars like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Asake, noting that every artiste’s journey and branding strategy is different.
