Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has struck gold once more with her latest film, “A Tribe Called Judah,” which took in an incredible N400 million in its first 12 days of release.

This accomplishment has helped the new film take the top spot as 2023’s highest-grossing film.

This achievement was revealed in a tweet on Tuesday by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), the organization in charge of compiling data on movie screenings in Nigeria.

The film “A Tribe Called Judah,” written and produced by Funke Akindele, has the potential to shatter box office records as it made an astounding sixty million naira in just two days of its premiere.

A well-known movie theater chain, Film One Entertainment, revealed the news on Instagram, presenting “A Tribe Called Judah” as the highest-grossing film of 2023. It is in the top five highest-grossing Nigerian films of all time, ranking alongside films such as “Omo Ghetto: The Saga” and “The Wedding Party.”

Other noteworthy films including “Merry Men 3,” “Orisa,” “Kesari,” “The Kujus Again,” and “Something Like Gold” have trailed behind “A Tribe Called Judah.”

Akindele is the director and producer of the movie, which centers on Jedidah Judah, a single mother played by the actress, and her boys, who are all fathered by different men. Timini Egbuson and Jide Kene Achufusi are two of the film’s gifted ensemble cast members.

With “Battle on Buka Street,” Funke Akindele has a history of shattering box office records. The film brought in N640 million over nine weeks at theaters, making it the second highest-grossing film of 2022, according to CEAN.

She has made a name for herself in the business by demonstrating her abilities as an actor, producer, and now director in a number of hit movies, such as “She Must Be Obeyed,” which was just made available on Prime Video a few months ago.
