- Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has condemned the circulation of an alleged fake audio recording linked to President Bola Tinubu, accusing social media personality VDM of spreading misinformation online.
- The controversy erupted after viral claims suggested Tinubu asked Peter Obi to step down for him in a leaked voice note, sparking heated reactions across social media platforms.

Presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga, has reacted strongly to the circulation of an alleged audio recording linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing social media critic VeryDarkMan of spreading false information online.
The controversy began after an X user identified as Aneex questioned the authenticity of the viral audio recording allegedly linked to President Tinubu. The user wrote:
“How do you really convince someone who has already decided and believes in their mind that this is actually Asiwaju’s voice? What kind of cheap propaganda is this?
VDM knows that Ibos are highly emotional people, and that’s why he enjoys riding on their emotions.”
The post referenced a trending voice note that allegedly claimed President Tinubu asked former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to step down for him during the 2023 election season.
Reacting to the development, Bayo Onanuga reposted the statement and called for legal consequences against VDM. According to him:
“This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu. This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform.”
The alleged audio has continued to generate mixed reactions across social media, with many Nigerians debating its authenticity and the wider implications of misinformation on digital platforms.
