Children’s Day: Oby Ezekwesili Blasts Tinubu, Akpabio Over “Failed Leadership” Amid Insecurity Concerns

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other political leaders over their planned Children’s Day messages, saying they have no moral right to celebrate Nigerian children while insecurity persists across the country.

In a post on X, Ezekwesili argued that the political leadership has failed Nigerian children and should not be issuing celebratory messages amid ongoing attacks and insecurity affecting schools nationwide.

She referenced multiple incidents of k+dn@ppings in states such as Oyo, Kebbi, Niger, Kaduna and Sokoto, as well as the 2014 Chibok girls abd¥ction, noting that many victims are still missing.

Ezekwesili also stated that many schools have been forced to shut down due to fear of att@cks, urging leaders to prioritize protection over ceremonial statements.

She wrote:

“You have no moral standing to wish anything to Nigerian children. None.”

Her comments come amid renewed public debate over school safety and the government’s response to recurring abductions and insecurity in different parts of the country.

The actor accused some entertainers of remaining silent despite the insecurity and economic hardship facing Nigerians, while still benefiting from the support of movie lovers across the country.

Speaking in a viral statement circulating online, Laide Olabanji said:

“We premiere our movies on Netflix and cinemas all the time and Nigerians has been supporting us, watching our movies on every platform, but you refused to speak for them, even with all the ins£curities and the kp@!ns in the country. Nigerians made you what you are today, not the government. Sham£ on you guys for supporting this b@d government”
