The APC National Working Committee has dissociated itself from the ongoing Lagos APC Primaries, in which APC Chieftain Bola Tinubu voted in.

According to the APC National Working Committee, the option A4 mode used in the election was opposed as they prefer a secret ballot system. Though the Lagos APC Primaries exercise which held in over 300 wards in the state is over, it was gathered that the mode used for the election was the Option A4, still known as open ballot, a system where voters queue behind the agent or representative of their preferred candidates. The secret ballot system is a process where a voter’s choice is confidential.

However with the results announced so far, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode was knocked over by his opponent Jide Sanwo-Olu who came through with a landslide victory.

The Chairman of the committee, Mr. Clement Ebri, in a telephone conversation with Punch’s correspondent, said the panel had been in a crucial meeting with the chairman of the APC in Lagos, agents of the two contenders in the primary election – Governor Akinwumi Ambode and Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu — and other stakeholders.

He said, “The primary election hasn’t started. We are in a meeting with the party chairman in Lagos and the agents of the two contenders in the primary election.

“There are grey areas to be ironed out. We want to organise a free, fair and transparent primary election and that is why this meeting is very crucial.

“It is after we have settled the grey areas and address all the stakeholders’ concerns that we will send people out from here to conduct the primary.”
