  • Allegations include home invasions and attacks on innocent residents.

An eyewitness has alleged that several civilians were shot and killed by Nigerian soldiers in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area. The incident reportedly occurred while the soldiers were assigned to provide security for Sterling Petrochemical and Fertilizer Company.

David Peter, who claims to have witnessed the events, described the killings as part of a recurring pattern of abuses by soldiers in the area.

“This is not the first time this is happening. Our so-called army men often invade people’s homes and seize their belongings (like diesel) with impunity,” Peter said.

He added that innocent civilians, rather than the intended security targets, were shot. “These are soldiers sent to provide security for Indians at Sterling Petrochemical and Fertilizer Company. Innocent civilians were targeted. The man lying on the floor is a citizen of Nnung Udoh in Ibesikpo. A passenger who boarded a taxi from PH to Uyo was also killed by the Nigerian Army this morning,” he reported.

The claims have not yet been independently verified, and no official statement from the Nigerian Army regarding the incident was available at the time of filing this report.

The alleged incident has raised concerns among residents about the conduct of military personnel and the protection of civilians in areas surrounding industrial facilities.
