The Arujale-Ojime of Okeluse Kingdom in Ondo State, Oba Oloyede Adekoya Akinghare II, has issued a strict warning to Nigerians regarding the rising trend of addressing him informally due to his young age.
Regarded as the youngest monarch in Yoruba land, the king expressed his concern through an official statement shared by his Chief of Staff, Amb. Prince Adefemi Michael Olorunfemi.
Oba Akinghare II ascended the throne in 2019 at just 15 years old, following the passing of his father, Oba Akinghare I, Adeyeoba Omomogbe.
The palace explained that reminders on proper forms of address have become necessary after repeated incidents of people using casual or disrespectful terms when speaking to the king.
The official statement, circulated on the monarch’s social media platforms, emphasized that he must be addressed exclusively as His Royal Majesty.
Prince Olorunfemi stated:
“Using terms like ‘bro,’ ‘blood,’ or any informal or belittling expressions when addressing our revered king is unacceptable and will no longer be tolerated.”
He further stressed that the king’s youth does not diminish the sacredness of the throne.
The statement warned that any form of disrespect whether from young people, social media users, visitors, or locals would be met with “firm and decisive action.”
While acknowledging Oba Akinghare II’s calm and approachable nature, the palace cautioned that these qualities should not be misunderstood as a sign of weakness.
“His Majesty’s patience should not be interpreted as permission to act improperly,” the statement added.
Prince Olorunfemi also reminded the public that the monarch serves not only as a traditional ruler but also as Igbakeji awon orisa, a representative of the gods on earth. He urged all Yoruba people to honor the throne as a cultural duty that should be upheld without question.
