The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has returned to the classroom after enrolling as a 200-level Law student at Northwest University, Kano. The traditional ruler was seen attending lectures alongside other undergraduates on Tuesday, marking the start of his academic journey in the university’s Faculty of Law.

Dressed in a black flowing outfit and a white turban, Sanusi sat in class with fellow students, drawing attention and admiration across the campus. Many students expressed surprise at seeing the monarch learning alongside them like a regular student.

The Emir was recently granted special admission into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme, where he will study both Common and Sharia Law. The university confirmed that he was admitted directly into 200 level, citing his extensive experience in governance, economics, and public service as relevant to the programme.

Photos of Sanusi attending lectures have since circulated widely on social media, sparking conversations and praise from Nigerians who commended his commitment to lifelong learning despite his status and achievements.

Muhammadu Sanusi II, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and a PhD holder, is known for his advocacy for education, reform, and intellectual engagement. Northwest University, established in 2012 and owned by the Kano State Government, offers programmes across law, sciences, and social sciences.

The Emir’s return to school has continued to generate positive reactions, with many describing it as a strong reminder that education has no age limit.
