“Only 8 Times in 14 Months”- Nigerian Man Questions Divorce Legitimacy Over Lack of Intimacy

  • Nigerian man Azeez Adams sparked a social media debate by questioning whether sexual incompatibility is a legitimate legal ground for divorce in the country.
  • He cited the case of a friend whose marriage, despite being otherwise good, is on the brink of divorce due to a severe lack of intimacy only eight times in 14 months which is causing constant conflict.

A Nigerian man, Azeez Adams, has initiated a public discussion on social media, questioning the legal and social acceptability of sexual incompatibility as a legitimate reason for divorce in Nigeria.

Adams, whose post on X (formerly Twitter) quickly went viral, presented a hypothetical scenario involving a friend who is seeking to end his marriage based on the lack of intimacy.

Adams detailed the situation of his friend, who got married several months ago but is already considering divorce. The core of the problem, according to Adams, is a significant lack of sexual activity:

“Married people, Abeg is sexual incompatibility a legitimate ground for divorce?” he asked, later detailing his friend’s situation: “A friend who got married several months ago, is set to divorced his wife, on the basis of lack of sx, saying they’ve only had sx about 8 times in 14 months.”

Adams noted that, despite the couple having a good relationship otherwise, the lack of intimacy is the primary cause of their disagreements and conflict:

“Every other thing is good, but nah the lack of s*x Dey cause their fight.”
