“Declare Diri’s Seat Vacant, He’s Partyless” – Kenneth Okonkwo Tells INEC

  • Politician and actor Kenneth Okonkwo has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the Bayelsa governorship seat vacant following Governor Duoye Diri’s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
  • He argued that since Diri has not yet joined another political party, he is constitutionally unqualified to remain in office, as the law requires every public official to belong to a political party.

Politician and actor Kenneth Okonkwo has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the seat of Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, vacant and organize a fresh governorship election within 90 days.

Okonkwo made the call following Governor Diri’s recent resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), along with 23 members of the State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, October 15.

In a post shared on Instagram, Okonkwo argued that the governor’s failure to immediately join another political party renders his position invalid, citing constitutional provisions that require all public office holders to belong to a political party.

He insisted that Diri’s current status as a non-member of any political party should lead to his immediate removal from office.
