- Former Labour Party chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has stirred controversy after predicting that Peter Obi could lose support in the South-East ahead of the 2027 election.
- His remarks criticizing Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso sparked heated reactions from Nigerians online.

Former Labour Party spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo has generated reactions online after making strong remarks about Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking during a recent political discussion, Okonkwo described both politicians as “political conmen” and accused them of leaving a coalition arrangement because they were allegedly afraid of party primaries.
According to him:
“Obi and Kwankwaso are political conmen, they came into the coalition and said that it is the only way to defeat Tinubu but because they are afraid of primaries, they left without a reason.”
He also referenced the 2019 presidential election where Peter Obi served as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“Looking at Obi for instance, in 2019 he was the Vice President of Atiku Abubakar, his chief campaign manager in the south. Only for him and his toxic followers to say Atiku Abubakar is not qualified in 2027 after he has brought you to national politics.”
The comments quickly sparked debates on social media, with supporters and critics of both politicians reacting strongly.
Reacting to the statement, @Realnazy1 wrote:
“I don’t know what Atiku promised Kenneth Okonkwo, but I think APC is using Atiku to destroy opposition.”
Another user, @james_ogbuagu, criticized Kenneth’s support for Atiku.
“Anytime I hear Kenneth Okonkwo speaking good about Atiku, I only see Reno praising Tinubu. Imagine Kenneth licking his spit.”
Some users expressed surprise at Kenneth Okonkwo’s latest stance, considering his previous support for Peter Obi during the 2023 election.
@Lateephart9 commented:
“I thought this man is OBI ride or die man, Never trust a politician.”
Another user, @PaidAmigo, accused Kenneth of doing the same thing he criticized Obi for.
“You are absolutely doing same thing to Obi… calling him this and that after bringing you to national politics.”
Others, however, backed Kenneth Okonkwo’s remarks.

“All of you claiming to be obidients today are not as close to Obi as Kenneth Okonkwo. I am happy about the way he is exposing Pit Obi for the fraud he is.”
