Nigerian lady, Jane Odinaka, has expressed shock over the recent increase in the price of cooking gas in her area.
On her Facebook page, where she is known as Humble Jane E Odinaka, Jane revealed that she was taken aback when she went to refill her gas cylinder.
She disclosed that she previously bought 12kg of cooking gas for ₦13,000 but was stunned to find that the same quantity now costs ₦24,000.
Sharing her frustration over the sharp rise, she noted how the constant price hikes are making basic household needs increasingly unaffordable.
She said:
“Please what’s with the price of cooking gas? Bought 12kg for 24k, something I bought for 13k the previous time.”
Some netizens who recently bought gas in their areas also took to the comment section to share their experiences.
Chinenye Linda Okonkwo noted: “You bought 12kg for 24k and ya complaining.. In portharcout here 7,5 kg is 29,000.”
Nwachinemerem Joy C. Obasi shared: “I feel maybe the seller cheated you if you didn’t buy from company. Check out for gas station inside fueling stations closed to you. They’ll always give you the best price. Road sliders are retailers.”
Albert Uche said: “I just filled mine 12.6k last week here… Abi e don put money?”
Households across Nigeria are reeling as cooking gas prices continue to spike, with a 12.5 kg cylinder now fetching as much as ₦25,000, up from ₦17,500 just last week.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has blamed the surge on disruptions caused by a recent strike by the oil workers’ union, PENGASSAN, calling the price hike “artificial” and promising that costs should ease as distribution normalizes.
