Veteran Nollywood filmmaker, Ayebo Yemi Solomon, popularly known as Yemi My Lover, has recounted his experience with Nigerian music star Olamide Badoo.
In a recent interview, Yemi shared how Olamide was the first celebrity to use his name in a song, and how happy he was when he heard it. Despite the excitement, he noted that he never received any form of compensation or recognition from the YBNL boss.
“Olamide was the first to sing with my name, I was very happy when I heard the song, I thanked God. God blessed my name, that’s why people used it to sing, Davido also sang with my name, many people made use of it,” he said.
He went on to narrate how Fuji musician Pasuma once asked him if Olamide had ever reached out or compensated him for using his name. After telling Pasuma that he hadn’t, the singer placed a call to Olamide in his presence.
“Pasuma said: ‘Yemo, did Olamide compensate you for using your name in his song?’ I said no and that I had never met him before, we don’t have each other’s number. Then Pasuma called him on the phone.”
Yemi explained that Olamide apologized and told him to collect his phone number from Pasuma so they could talk. However, the conversation never went further.
“Pasuma gave me his number and I called Olamide for more than six months and he never picked my call. I sent him messages, he never read them or replied, so I let him be,” he added.
