In other news, Terseer Waya, popularly known as Kiddwaya and son of a Nigerian billionaire, has addressed the public outcry that followed his recent donation request.
The former Big Brother Naija housemate had earlier urged Nigerians to contribute to his foundation to support victims of the tragic attack in Benue State. He mentioned that donations as little as ₦500 were welcome to assist those in need.
However, Kiddwaya’s appeal sparked widespread criticism on social media. Many users questioned why someone known for flaunting wealth and luxury was seeking financial aid from the public.
Responding to the backlash days later, Kiddwaya took to his social media platforms to share his perspective. He expressed satisfaction that the criticism was at least drawing attention to the plight of Benue residents. He also criticized Nigerians for being quick to complain online while doing little in real life to effect change.
Clarifying his intentions, Kiddwaya explained that the funds were meant to provide food, clothing, shelter, and medical care for affected families. He also encouraged those in need of support to contact him directly via email so assistance could be properly distributed.
In his caption he wrote:
“1. I’m happy with all the attention I’m getting because it shines the light on how important this Benue crisis is. So thank you TV stations, TVC , Arise, bloggers, to content creators and concerned citizens, I thank you all.
2. We Nigerians are exceptional when it comes to talking on social media but in reality not alot gets done. Pls let’s all take whatever action we can on the recurring security challenges in various parts of the country.
3. While feeding is always a priority for those in need, The generated will NOT wholesomely be used for palliatives this time around. However, I will use the money donated to help some of the families affected (shelter, clothing, feeding, medicine). So, if you have been affected please email us and we will do our best to assist with urgent needs. Alternatively we will look for NGO’s on ground who are dealing with the crisis and funds will be made available to them.”
