- A viral post claiming Yahoo boys are benefiting from a supposed hantavirus lockdown and COVID-era schemes has sparked widespread backlash online.
- Many users dismissed the claims as misinformation while others shifted focus to corruption and governance issues in Nigeria.

A controversial post by social media commentator Seaking has stirred debate online after he alleged that “Yahoo boys” are excited about a supposed hantavirus lockdown and “benefit and ID ME” payouts similar to COVID-19 relief schemes.
In the post, he also claimed without evidence that COVID-19 was a “planned pandemic,” a statement that immediately triggered backlash across social media platforms.
“Yahoo boys are excited because of the new hantavirus lockdown, they’re happy because they can claim the ‘Benefit and ID ME’ money just like they did during COVID 19 period even though COVID 19 was a fak£ a planned pandem!c,” he wrote.
The post has since generated mixed reactions, with many users criticising the claims and others redirecting attention to broader issues like governance and fraud in society.
@TrendJumper001 responded, “Nigerians will post things like this online, then turn around and complain about the fraud stereotype. Make it make sense.”
@Wiseone added, “You guys are only mentioning Yahoo boys. What about the yahoo politicians? Another season to start counting numbers.”
@Amof also fact-checked the claim, stating, “There is no verified ‘hantavirus lockdown’ currently affecting the world like COVID-19 did. Hantavirus is a real disease, but outbreaks are usually isolated.”
Others warned against misinformation, with @ISCO commenting, “All these viruses are being created,” while @mentalk2tv wrote, “How can you come online to say something condescending with ease.”
