In a contentious remark, veteran Nigerian rapper Terry Tha Rapman claims that Afrobeats singer Wizkid killed the rap genre and is now trying to do the same with the genre.

Wizkid came under fire from Terry Tha Rapman for saying recently that he is not an Afrobeats singer.

Remember how Wizkid attacked Afrobeats in a recent social media post, saying he couldn’t fit into a single genre.

Terry Tha Rapman, however, responded on the X platform, claiming that Wizkid killed rap with his statement that “rap is dead” and that with his latest outburst, he is now trying to kill Afrobeats.

He said that Wizkid might be his next target and advised Highlife singers to be cautious around him.

Terry Tha Rapman wrote:

“First rap, now Afrobeats. How many genres Wizkid wan kill? Highlife, run o!

Following Wizkid’s outburst, Tunde Ednut, Verydarkman, and others discuss his objection to the term “Afrobeats artist.”

The Grammy-winning Nigerian musician revealed the name of his upcoming album, “Morayo,” in a series of posts on his Instagram stories on Friday night.

However, the hitmaker of “Ojuelegba,” who also released the hit song “Pakurumo” in 2011, cautioned the public that the project is not for lovers of Afrobeats.

Other celebrities from Nigeria, such as Tunde Ednut, were taken aback by Wizkid’s position after seeing his post. Afrobeats’ importance and its enduring link to Nigerian culture were emphasised by Tunde.

Wishing Wizkid well with his next album, Tunde promised to download it in support if it lives up to his expectations.

Ednut wrote;

“WIZKID IS AT IT AGAIN TONIGHT,Oo! It is well..,We, we love Afrobeats and Afrobeats is ours forever. We are proud of it and Afrobeats is here to stay.,All the best in his forthcoming Album. If it’s good, we’ll still download it”
