Seun Kuti, a popular Nigerian musician and the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, has spoken out about why he does not believe in God.

The singer boldly expressed his disbelief in the conventional understanding of a divine creator and questioned the notion of attributing the creation of the universe to someone.

The Afrobeat artist went on to highlight the harsh realities of human suffering, stating that roughly 80% of the world’s population is hungry.

He expressed his disbelief in this idea by juxtaposing this harsh reality with the idea that people are God’s most valuable possession.

He questioned the notion of a benevolent creator being responsible for the current state of the world, as well as the legitimacy of attributing credit to such  a being.

In his words;

“I don’t believe in God. Not in the concept that people believe in that there is a guy watching over everybody, will judge you when you die.

I don’t believe in the concept that anyone is responsible for the creation. If somebody created this, are we supposed to be giving the person credit?

80% of human beings are living in hunger and we are supposed to be his most prized possession. I don’t believe in God, in the concept that people believe in him. I
There is something but it isn’t like the way we are told”.

This is not the first time Seun Kuti has publicly stated his atheistic beliefs. In previous statements made several years ago, the musician expressed his disbelief in traditional religious doctrines, which he reiterated in the recent interview.

On social media, the artist’s comments elicited a wide range of reactions, with netizens expressing a wide range of opinions.
