Salihu Lukman, the former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has commented on the controversy surrounding Nasir El-Rufai’s nomination for a ministerial position.

In response to the criticisms of El-Rufai’s confirmation, Lukman called them overdone politics.

According to Gistlover, the 10th Senate, chaired by Godswill Akpabio, confirmed 45 other nominees on August 7th, delaying the confirmation of the former governor of Kaduna State, Stella Okotete (Delta State), and Abubakar Danladi (Taraba State), as well as Stella Okotete and Abubakar Danladi.

According to some reports, the Senate rejected El-Rufai and two other candidates for confirmation because they had to undergo security clearance.

The development in the last few days has seen the former governor of Kaduna State travel out of the country.

When discussing El-Rufai’s situation on Channels TV on Tuesday, Lukman questioned why the Senate had approved the nominations of other candidates while rejecting the former governor.

The ex-vice chairman of APC said, “My personal opinion is that, again, politics is being overplayed. If other nominees are cleared, I don’t see any reason why Mallam Nasir will not be cleared.

“Sincerely speaking, the earlier we reduce political considerations in terms of the determination of decisions with respect to appointments, the better for the country.”
