“When I Spoke, Nigerians Dragged Me”- Tiwa Savage Reacts To Fresh Calls For Activism

  • Tiwa Savage, a prominent Nigerian music star, responded to a social media user urging her to speak out more on Nigeria’s security issues.
  • The call for her to be more vocal follows criticism she received regarding her response to the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
  • The situation highlights the expectations placed on public figures to address social and political issues in their communities.

Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has addressed a social media user who urged her to speak out more strongly about the worsening security situation in the country.

The interaction comes shortly after the singer faced backlash over her reaction to the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

In late May, Tiwa Savage shared a video on her X account in which she expressed concern and sadness over the incident. She explained that she only learned about the abduction nearly two weeks after it occurred, saying she came across information about it through a video posted by fellow artiste Spyro and content creator KieKie.

Her remarks sparked criticism from some Nigerians, who accused her of reacting too late to an issue that had already generated widespread public attention.

Despite the criticism, the award-winning Afrobeats singer remained active on social media. On June 3, she posted a promotional video on her Instagram page, where a follower identified as @akinolajr encouraged her to use her platform to raise awareness about the country’s security challenges.

The fan stressed that her influence could help amplify conversations around insecurity and other pressing national concerns.

Responding to the appeal, Tiwa Savage stated that she had previously spoken on such issues but was met with harsh criticism. She added that public perception does not always reflect the efforts she makes behind the scenes.

According to the singer, the absence of public posts should not be interpreted as a lack of involvement, noting that she contributes in ways that may not always be visible to the public.

The mother of one further stated that she does not feel compelled to showcase every action she takes, emphasizing that her intentions and efforts are known to God.

“when I spoke I was crucified for it but trust me that won’t stop me from still being active. Just know just because you might not see my post about it does not mean I am not doing anything. I just don’t have to validate my actions, God sees 🙏🏾 May God help us and guide us all with the right wisdom to overcome this tragedy 🙏🏾

@captainmichzy:“what a reply without insult 👏👏👏. Unlike some so called celeb, dem go first insult u b4 dem block u. Good to hear ur concerns and GOD will help us 🙏 🙌”

@jrnrebaby:“Exactly. People forget that not every action has to be posted online for validation. Speaking up is important, but so is the work done behind the scenes. Tiwa was criticized when she spoke, and now some people are criticizing her again. Sometimes it feels like people are looking for someone to blame rather than focusing on the actual problem. Wishing Nigeria healing and better days ahead. 🙏🇳🇬”

@khenturky1:“you are super talented and we love your music but pls you won’t bcuz you were crucified and stop validating your actions. Your voice or platform will continue send a message.. as long as it’s stands for positive change. ❤️🙌”
