Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has voiced his deep frustration over the state of the nation, highlighting the ongoing lack of basic infrastructure in 2025.
In a recent interview with HipTV, Falz criticized the persistent issues plaguing Nigeria, particularly the unreliable electricity supply.
“The biggest thing practically speaking is the yield of electricity. It’s still wild. In 2025, we’re still dealing with up-nepa,” he said, referring to the iconic power-outage phrase that continues to define everyday Nigerian life.
The rapper also condemned the country’s inadequate drainage system.
“Any small rainfall like this, we have to be swimming around. It’s shameful,” he remarked.
Falz didn’t just focus on infrastructure he also addressed mental health within the entertainment industry. He described the environment as “mad,” stressing that many individuals are battling untreated mental health conditions.
“Everyone is mad in their own way, just on different levels,” he said with brutal honesty.
On a personal note, Falz opened up about a painful experience from his past. He recalled a romantic gesture gone wrong, where he reserved a high-end restaurant and prepared flowers, only to be turned down by the girl after dinner.
“I really liked the girl. I thought we were on the same page but apparently not,” he admitted.
He further reflected on the pressure of growing up under the shadow of his father, renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana.
“In the beginning, people thought I had it easy because of my dad. But I worked hard and carved my own path. Now, they see him and say, ‘That’s Falz’s dad,’” he proudly shared.
