The White House revealed that 48 year old Melania Trump underwent a procedure to treat a benign condition this morning.

It is the most serious medical procedure undergone by a serving First Lady since Nancy Regan had a mastectomy in 1987, CNN reported.

A White House statement read:

“The procedure was successful and there were no complications,”

“Mrs Trump is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and will likely remain there for the duration of the week.

“The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere.”

The White House described the procedure as an embolization, which involves deliberately blocking a blood vessel.

It is used by doctors to slow down blood that is flowing through a vessel too fast or shrink abnormal tissue by reducing its blood supply.

Melania Trump was last seen with her husband four days ago last Thursday when they greeted the three Americans who were released from North Korea upon their arrival at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. Picture below.

Ex-model Melania became President Donald Trump‘s third wife when she married the property billionaire in 2005.

Trump proposed by slipping a 15-carat, emerald-cut diamond ring worth $1.5 million onto her finger at New York’s glittering Met Gala.

Melania Trump’s surgery comes just a week after she announced her official platform to improve the well-being of children through her “Be Best” campaign.

“There is one goal: to educate children about the many issues they are facing today,” she said in a speech in the Rose Garden on May 7.

“If we truly listen to what our kids have to say, whether it’s their concerns or ideas, adults can provide them the support and tools they need to grow up and be happy productive adults.”
