Any military action planned by ECOWAS to remove President Yahya Jammeh of The Gambia might be placed on hold temporarily as the organisation waits for a United Nations resolution.

The UN Security Council will vote on Thursday on a draft resolution endorsing the West African bloc ECOWAS in its efforts to ensure a transfer of power in The Gambia, diplomats said.

The Economic Community Of West African States has repeatedly called on leader Yahya Jammeh to respect the result of the December 1 election and step down after 22 years in power.

Further reports have it that the coaltion of soldiers are currently in Senegal awaiting others to engage President Jammeh in case of any resistance or hostility in relinquishing power.
