A Nigerian man has sparked conversations online after taking a lone protest against bad governance to the popular Idumota Market in Lagos State.
In a viral video making rounds on social media, the unidentified protester criticised politicians for distributing food items during campaigns instead of creating policies that would improve the economy and reduce hardship.
According to him, temporary handouts such as bags of rice cannot solve the country’s long-term economic challenges.
“That bag of rice they’re sharing for you won’t last 2 months, if they really want to make the country work, they can do so the common man will be able to afford rice,” he said.
The protester also condemned the priorities of political leaders, accusing them of spending heavily on campaigns while neglecting healthcare and social welfare.
“They have thousand of campaign buses but there’re no ambulance in the hospital. They like as the system dey so they can weaponise the poverty,” he added.
The video quickly gained traction online, with many Nigerians reacting to his comments.
One X user, @Real_Ebube, wrote:
