Taraba To Reintroduce History Studies In Primary, Secondary Schools

Plans to reinstate history as a subject in the state’s basic education curriculum have been made public by the Taraba State Government.

This was disclosed by state governor Agbu Kefas on Sunday night when he invited reporters to a banquet in Jalingo.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the 2009–2010 academic year saw the removal of history from the basic and secondary school curricula.

According to NAN, the Federal Government of Nigeria reinstated history as a stand-alone topic in the basic education curriculum in November 2022, thirteen years after it was abolished.

He asserted that history and a society’s evolution are related.

 “No society will truly develop without its inhabitants having a good knowledge of their history.

“That is why we will introduce history studies in our primary and secondary schools in the state to lay a solid foundation for accelerated development,” he said.

In order to improve the quality of education in the state, the governor further said that elementary school instructors must hold a first degree, and secondary school teachers must have at least a master’s degree.

In order to make sure that all school administrators were acting appropriately, he advised journalists to keep an eye on how the state government’s free education policy was being implemented in elementary and secondary institutions.

Kefas promised to update the Press Center in Jalingo and give working automobiles to the several organizations within the Nigeria Union of Journalists, even as he praised reporters for their impartial reporting to date.

Speaking, former Taraba Commissioner for Information Mr. Danjuma Adamu asked the state administration to view journalists as collaborators in development.

Hajiya Zainab Jalingo, the state’s commissioner of information, also spoke and urged ongoing collaboration with media in order to better serve the people of the state.

The governor was earlier assured of ongoing impartial reporting for the good of all by Matthew Jen, the chairman of Taraba NUJ, and Gabriel Yough, the chairman of the state NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel.
