Super Eagles Lost To Guinea 2-0 In Pre-AFCON Friendly

In a friendly match against Guinea on Monday, the Nigeria’s Super Eagles suffered a 2-0 defeat as the 2023 African Cup of Nations is set to begin in Cote d’Ivoire on February 13.

The Bani Yas Stadium in Abu Dhabi hosted the friendly match.

Guinea opened the score in the 14th minute of play, according to the Super Eagles’ official X page, which provided constant updates on the game.

 “14’ Nigeria concedes! NGA 0-1 GUI,” they wrote.

Furthermore, a penalty was awarded to Nigeria in the 19th minute. “19’ Penalty awarded to Nigeria as Umar is hacked down.”

“20’ Penalty Missed! Guinean goalie denies Simon a goal from the penalty spot,” the live update noted.

 “64’ Nigeria concedes a second goal,” the update added.

In their first friendly matchup prior to the AFCON, Nigeria was defeated 2-0 by Guinea.

Nigeria, who won the AFCON in 1980, 1994, and 2013, is reportedly aiming for a fourth championship, according to PUNCH Online.

On January 14, the Eagles will play their opening Group A game against Equatorial Guinea. Four days later, they will play the host nation, Ivory Coast. Their last group A match is against Guinea Bissau on January 22.

Guinea, the Gambia, Cameroon, and the reigning champion Senegal are all in a tough group in this year’s AFCON.
