Plans to transfer Yusuf Buhari, the son of President Muhammadu Buhari, from Cedarcrest Hospital to National Hospital, Abuja, was abruptly shelved amid public outcry that the first family does not have confidence in the nation’s healthcare system.

On Wednesday, DAILY NIGERIAN exclusively broke the news of the horror motor-bike crash, which left the president’s son and his friend, Bashir Gwandu, severely injured.

But ahead of the expected transfer of the high-profile patient to the National Hospital, DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the federal government ordered for the total renovation of the trauma centre to a state befitting a member of the first family.

“Everywhere was renovated and painted in anticipation of transfer of the patient to the trauma centre. Surprisingly, they chose to leave him in orthopaedic hospital than in the trauma centre where experts are available,” said a source who preferred anonymity.

It was also gathered that the minister of health had inspected the facilities and certified them good enough to host the patient but the first family allegedly kicked against the decision.

Plans are afoot to fly the president’s son outside the country as soon as his condition improves, a family source said.

Reports said President Muhammadu Buhari had chided security agents for allowing Yusuf to use power bike.

Ban on power bike has been in force since June 2014, following bomb blast at EMAB Plaza, Wuse II District, Abuja.
