The fans are seemingly against the arrival of the Spanish striker despite the deal reaching its final stage. Alvaro Morata’s medical has been scheduled for Sunday ahead of his official unveiling as an Atletico Madrid player. The 26-year-old striker who was caught in a three-way transfer involving Gonzalo Higuain and Krzysztof Piątek finally looks set to seal a £9-million loan move to the Spanish capital club. Morata, despite moving to Chelsea in 2017, struggled to live up to expectation as the club’s leading striker. The ex-Real Madrid and Juventus forward managed a goal return of 24 in the 72 appearances he made for the Blues.

Gonzalo Higuain’s reunion with Maurizio Sarri simply meant that Alvaro Morata had no future at Stamford Bridge. In wake of the development, Spanish publication AS revealed that the striker had arrived in Spain on Saturday evening ahead of his imminent switch to Atletico Madrid. Nonetheless, Morata’s previous affiliation with Real Madrid has already earned him a hostile reception from Los Rojiblancos ultras even before he officially puts pen to paper. During Saturday’s league clash with Getafe, the ultras chanted against the arrival of the attacker while endorsing their homegrown striker Borja Garces.

When quizzed about the chants that echoed throughout the Wanda Metropolitano after his side’s 2-0 win, Diego Simeone iterated that he understood the fans sentiments. However, he was quick to throw his full support behind Alvaro Morata.

“The fans’ opinion is always respectable,” he said. “I look for players who serve the club and the team.” Chelsea has the option to recall the Spanish forward at the end of the season while Atletico Madrid also has an obligation to buy him at the end of the 18-months for 50 million euros.
