Oba (king) Abdulrosheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo land in Osun State, recently dressed for a recent event, which has sparked much discussion online.
The Oluwo of Iwo was among the important guests during former Oyo State First Lady Florence Ajimobi’s 65th birthday reception dinner.
The Florence Ajimobi birthday reception was held on Friday night in Ikoyi and was nothing short of spectacular.
The Governor of Imo State, Hope Odidika Uzodinma, his wife, Barrister Chioma Uzodinma, Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Tiwa Savage, and Toke Makinwa were among those in attendance at the lavish birthday celebration dinner.
Others include comedian Gbenga Adeyinka D 1st, MD Parallex Bank, Mayor Femi Bakare (father of BBN Tobi Bakre), Oba Ghandi Olaoye, Soun of Ogbomoso land, the first lady of Ogun State – Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, the former first lady of Ogun State – Mrs Bolanle Patience Ambode, the former first lady of Lagos State – Mrs Bisi Adeleye Fayemi, and the former first lady of Osun State – Sherifat Aregbesola.
However, one of the most memorable moments of the birthday reception dinner was Oluwo of Iwo’s entrance.
While many expected him to dress like the Soun of Ogbomosho land, the Oluwo of Iwo wore a black suit and a black hat instead.
Many social media users ridiculed Oluwo of Iwo’s attire, claiming that it does not symbolize a royal ruler in Yoruba land.

I want those complaining about his mode of dressing to note that Oluwo attended a birthday dinner and not a traditional wedding or burial ceremony. Being an Oba does not mean he can’t put on western clothes to some events like birthday dinner. #MyCandidOpinion.
