Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, sparked online reactions on Wednesday after he openly declared admiration for Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
Known for his past criticisms of Obi, Bashir surprised many when he posted a photo of Obi alongside his father at the opposition coalition meeting held on July 2. Captioning the photo, he wrote: “He don dey mature,” showing enthusiasm for the new political alignment.
In response to a curious X (formerly Twitter) user who asked whether he would now refrain from criticizing Obi, Bashir affirmed that he had indeed changed his stance. He declared his newfound support by writing the Northern political slogan with Obi’s name: “Sai Peter Obi.”
Defending his change of heart, Bashir stated that if other political commentators can revise their opinions, he too should be allowed to reassess and update his political views.
