Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has released what he described as email proof showing he played a significant role in Peter Obi’s emergence as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate during the 2019 presidential election.
Omokri, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, made the disclosure in a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday.
He shared a screenshot of an email purportedly sent to him by Peter Obi on October 8, 2018 just days before the official announcement.
“Please find attached an email sent to me by Peter Obi at 6:13 PM on Monday, October 8, 2018. Four days after this email was sent, Peter Obi was announced as Waziri Atiku Abubakar’s running mate,” Omokri wrote.
He explained that the decision to publish the email was in response to accusations from Peter Obi’s supporters, particularly the Obidient Movement, who claimed he lied about his involvement.
“My ONLY motive in publishing this evidence is to establish that I did not lie. I would not have considered publishing this email if a Peter Obi surrogate had not called me a liar on a popular podcast,” he said.
Omokri further challenged Obi to deny the authenticity of the email, warning that he is prepared to release even more evidence if provoked.
“If this email is fake or AI-generated, then I challenge Mr. Obi to deny it, and I will publish even more damning evidence, although it is not my desire to do so,” he stated.
