Nollywood actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji has shared a heartfelt insight into his marriage with actress Adebimpe “Mo Bimpe” Oyebade, revealing how their relationship overcame personal beliefs, career boundaries, and religious differences.
During a recent interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi Brown, Lateef disclosed that he once had a firm decision never to marry someone from the entertainment industry. However, he admitted that life sometimes turns out differently from the plans people make for themselves.
The actor, while reflecting on his journey with Mo Bimpe, said he often stated that he would never date or marry another person in the entertainment space, but fate had other plans.
“I would always say that I would never marry in the industry, or marry an industry person. But most of the time, you just talk, and God will be looking at you like, ‘No, not it,’” he said.
Lateef also spoke about the religious differences between him and his wife. While he is a Muslim, Mo Bimpe is a Christian, a situation that initially raised concerns among some family members.
According to the actor, rather than allow assumptions to determine their future, he decided to meet her father personally and address the concerns directly.
“They will not accept a Muslim in my household,” he recalled being told. In response, he said, “Are you sure? Let me go and see your father.”
For Lateef, religion was not the defining factor in choosing a life partner. He explained that personal values, inner peace, and character were more important foundations for a successful relationship.
“The first religion is your conscience and is your peace of mind. Every other thing comes after then,” he stated.
The actor revealed that both families eventually accepted their union, allowing the couple to build their marriage with the support and blessings of their loved ones.
Beyond their romantic relationship, Lateef explained that friendship and their shared professional experiences played a major role in bringing them closer. He noted that they had collaborated on business projects before their relationship became romantic, and their bond naturally grew over time.
Speaking about what attracted him most to Mo Bimpe, the actor highlighted her intelligence, confidence, and strong personality, noting that physical beauty alone was not enough for him.
“She is a very intelligent person, and she is a very stern person. ‘This is it, that is it,’” he said.
Lateef added that he values a partner who challenges him and contributes positively to his growth.
“You can be very beautiful and nothing upstairs. Then there’s no point. That means you won’t move me forward. I need somebody to push me and to keep pushing me forward, and that she did,” he shared.
The actor’s revelation has given fans a deeper understanding of the love story between him and Mo Bimpe, showing how mutual respect, friendship, and shared values helped shape their marriage.
