Reality TV personality Josephina Ijeoma Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has expressed frustration about Nigeria’s current economic challenges while also raising concerns about the payment structure attached to the Lagos ride-hailing scheme LagRide.

In a video circulating online, the former Big Brother Naija winner called on Nigerian youths to become more politically engaged as the 2027 general elections approach. She said the rising cost of living has made life increasingly difficult for many citizens.

Phyna explained that witnessing the struggles people face daily has pushed her to start speaking more openly about governance and government policies.

According to her, Nigerians must begin to demand accountability from leaders and ensure their voices are heard through the ballot.

“It is time for a better government. Our vote must count. We really have to start getting angry now,” she said, noting that she intends to use her platform to advocate for change ahead of the next elections.

The reality star also questioned the financial model of the LagRide initiative, which provides vehicles to drivers under a repayment structure that requires weekly remittances.

Phyna said she had initially considered assisting a few people in joining the program by paying what she believed to be the ₦50,000 entry requirement. However, she became worried after hearing claims that drivers are expected to remit around ₦450,000 every week.

She argued that such an amount appears unrealistic, especially given the competition drivers face from other ride-hailing services operating in the city.

“How are you helping the Nigerian youth with a ₦450,000 weekly drop-off?” she asked.

The LagRide scheme was introduced by the Lagos State Government as part of efforts to create employment opportunities and improve ride-hailing services across Lagos.

She said in part …

“It is time for a better government. Our vote must count. This is March and we have to start getting angry now. We really have to start getting angry now. so since we are here now i have decided to start opting out things that are factual in nigeria against the 2027 election because i had already promised myself that i’ll be very active in the 2027 election because i’m tired of the way i’m spending money i’m tired of how life has been rent everything is too much and as a nigerian youth i am fully going to use my platform my voice to say what I feel is good. Whether you like it or not. You don’t need to like me on this net and I don’t give a….”
